1975 Rolex Value Floors Owner

Man floored when he found out the true value of a Rolex bought in 1975

What will you do if you find out that something that you brought roughly around 45 years ago is worth thousands of dollars in the market?  You might go crazy, right? Well, that’s what happened to a man who walked in with a Rolex watch to an antique show to find out its value.

Well, let’s say it was a stroke of happiness for the guy. When he heard that the watch he had, was sold for 400,000 USD, he was toppled on the ground.

But, the appraiser and valuation of the cost weren’t finished. With the condition that the watch was in, it was valued approximately 500,000 USD to 700,000 USD. The man appeared on a PBS show known as “Antiques Roadshow” with his unworn Rolex Cosmograph reference number 6263, hoping to learn it’s value.

The show travels across the United States to search for “Country’s hidden treasure.” The episode on Monday night, which featured the man and his Rolex, was shot in Bonanzaville in West Fargo, North Dakota.

The man who brought the watch is an Airforce veteran, and he said that he purchased Rolex because he heard from somewhere that it was a good brand for scuba diving. He said that the watch was ordered through Air force base exchange in Nov 1974, and it arrived in April 1975.  But, after he received the watch, which costs nearly a month’s salary at that time even with the 10% discount, he thought it was too good to wear it inside of saltwater.

So, instead of using the watch, the old guy kept it in his safety deposit box for nearly more than 40 years, only taking out a few times to check it.

Not only was the watch in perfect condition, but the guy had saved the warranty papers, the original Rolex brochure for Cosmograph, two receipts, and two original boxes of Rolex which the watch came in.

Collectors love collecting Rolex watches — especially the ones which have a story behind it. The model brought in by the guy had a story tied to it. The similarly styled watch was worn in the 1969 film, “Winning,” said the evaluator of the Peter Plans.

According to the expert, the watch is in great condition. He said, “It is an absolutely fabulous find. It is one of the absolute minutemen models, and in this condition, it is a one of a kind watch. According to the expert, ” there is no model better than the one which was kept in front of him.”

I hope you have learned your lesson and will never throw away old stuff. Who knows, maybe you have something hiding in your closet that might make you a million dollars. You can get lucky and might get your gift earlier than Christmas.
